The thrilling new adventure from the #1 New York Times- bestselling author.Clive Cussler's tales of the Oregon and its crew-"the clever, indefatigable Juan Cabrillo and his merry band of tough, tech-savvy fighting men and women" (Publishers Weekly)-have made fans of hundreds of thousands of readers. But the Oregon's sixth adventure is its most remarkable one yet.On December 7, 1941, five brothers exploring a shaft on a small island off the coast of Washington State make an extraordinary discovery, only to be interrupted by news of Pearl Harbor. In the present, Cabrillo, chasing the remnants of a crashed satellite in the Argentine jungle, stumbles upon a shocking revelation of his own. His search to untangle the mystery leads him, first, to that small island and its secret, and then much farther back, to an ancient Chinese expedition-and a curse that seems to have survived for more than five hundred years. If Cabrillo's team is successful in its quest, the reward could be incalculable. If not . . . the only reward is death.

The Silent Sea The Oregon Files Audiobook CD Clive Cussler Books

The Oregon Files series co-authored by Jack Du Brul are the best single series of Cussler's books outside of the Dirk Pitt novels. The characters are cleverly developed and interact so well that it is easy to imagine that you are a part of the Oregon's crew. While I enjoy Dirk, Al, Kurt and Joe and the rest of Clive Cussler's menagerie of adventurers, The Oregon Files is far and away my favorite of all the series. Jack Du Brul is a great writer with his own series and teamed with Cussler, they are unbeatable. I look forward to every cruise of the intrepid Oregon!

The Silent Sea The Oregon Files Audiobook CD Clive Cussler Books Reviews

On December 7, 1941, five brothers exploring a remote island make an exciting discovery. Fast-forward to the present-day Juan Cabrillo and the rest of his Oregon crew mates are sent to Argentina to retrieve the remains of a crashed American satellite. The Oregon looks like a dilapidated old freighter when in reality, she is a technological wonder ship, possessing high-tech equipment and weaponry. During the mission, Cabrillo discovers the remains of a large blimp which crashed near the site where the satellite went down. Thus begins a series of events that will take Cabrillo and the other members of the Oregon to Pine Island, the Mississippi River, Argentina, Paraguay, and Antarctica. Throughout the duration of the book, Cabrillo and his friends are running from Argentine members of the ninth brigade. Will Cabrillo manage to stay ahead of them, or will the Argentines catch up? All of the events in the novel feed off one another, and Clive Cussler does a masterful job of tying everything together. The ending of the book is explosive, to say the least.

This is the second Cussler novel I've read and, as with the first, I was very impressed. Cussler and Du Brul do a masterful job of creating life-like characters which the reader can easily relate to and, in the case of "The Silent Sea", root for. I was impressed with the breadth of characters introduced by Cussler. Although there are a lot of characters introduced, each one has his/her own unique talents which adds to the excitement of the story. Cabrillo, of course, was my favorite due to his jack-of-all-trades persona. As for the story itself, being a fan of World War II history, I was immediately intrigued by the reference to December 7, 1941. From there, the events of the present-day unfold at a fast and furious pace. I particularly liked Cussler's choice of the Argentines as Cabrillo's antagonists. I thought the ending was the best part of the book, as the story literally explodes.

I give this book my highest recommendation. Clive Cussler and his partner Jack Du Brul have written a first-class thriller that really draws the reader in. Don't miss this fun and exciting book.
Cussler's works always involve a bit of history that has significant ramifications, if not dire consequences, for the present day. This title is no exception, and is thoroughly enjoyable and imaginative in the telling of the tale. I hesitated for some time before jumping into the Oregon series, wrongly assuming the stories were about some boring tug boat, harbor-bound cheesey character. Far from it - the Oregon series are easily the equal of the Dirk Pitt legend, surprising in their enterprise, imaginative plots, and action episodes. This effort is obviously no Shakespearian icon, but another Cussler story that's just plain fun involving high technology, the Antarctic, and Chinese attempts to influence the course of World events. And the good guys win. This book was penned along with Jack DuBrul, himself a gifted writer known for the Phillip Mercer series, more of which I would definitely enjoy. Some might criticize Mr Cussler for prolifically cranking out books with co-authors, but I for one enjoy a good story, and the more the better. The Cussler "factory" reminds me of the Stratemeyer syndicate that cranked out all those Tom swift, Hardy Boys, etc books in the 40's and 50's. Great reads for kids growing up, and now those same kids can enjoy the efforts of Mr Cussler et al. A great Cussler story is like being a kid again.
Holy Crap! This was one of the best books I have ever had the privilege to read. Eric A Shelman recommended that I get this book and listen to it on Audible. The characters are perfect, the story line is engaging and believable. The whole thing could and possible is happening as we speak. The narrator made this experience even better! I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this book.
